With recent acclaimed presentations in Miami, Chicago and New York, SmithDavidson Gallery is excited to open the Amsterdam cultural season with new works by Dutch artist Matthijs Scholten. You are welcome to join the public opening of the exhibition Angels & Demons this Friday September 13, in presence of the artist.
Matthijs Scholten's new works, created in Amsterdam and Bali, shows a clear evolution of his style, while staying rooted in personal emotion. Combining figurative elements like flowers and animals, his energetic brushstrokes and impasto details invoke influences of CoBrA artists, Street Art, and popular culture, resulting in a distinct, layered style with symbolic and constructivist influences.
The solo exhibition by Matthijs Scholten will be on view on both floors of the gallery’s viewing spaces at Minervaplein 10 and is on display until November 16.
