In Marie Cecile Thijs’ world, time stands still in images that exude surrealism. Objects we see in everyday life – a flower, yoghurt pouring in a glass, even a snail – are reframed and immortalized through the artist’s lens as figurative creations. Two tulips inexplicably suspended in air seem to kiss in an image which appears to transcend time and space, while a markedly modernist quality roots her work firmly in the 21^st century.
