This painting shows a colourful still life of yellow, red and pink flowers. The flower arrangement is standing in a round purple vase on a platter on top of a small round table. The elaborately decorated tablecloth is embellished with floral motives as well; large dark orange flowers with green leaves on a yellow background. Furthermore, the blue walls in the background have a rich design. Bright reds and oranges empower the colourfulness of the scene.
Fauvist painter Charles Camoin was a close friend of Henri Matisse, who was his classmate at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Just as fabrics played an important role in the work of Matisse, here too we see how Camoin played with different textiles. The effect is a powerful colourist scene and a beautiful example of the Fauvist work of Camoin.
